  trio Black Doldrums have established themselves as one of the most disti
 nctive voices in contemporary dark alternative music. Combining driving r
 hythms\, cascading guitar textures and cinematic atmospheres with themes 
 of psychology\, identity and human connection\, the band create a sound t
 hat draws inspiration from gothic post-punk\, darkwave and synthpop while
  remaining unmistakably their own.\n\nAt the heart of Black Doldrums are 
 Kevin Gibbard and Sophie Landers\, whose creative partnership has shaped 
 the band’s immersive and emotionally charged sound. Their latest album\
 , Repetition Compulsion\, completes the ambitious “State of Mind Trilog
 y”\, following 2022’s Dead Awake and 2024’s In Limerence. The album
  is inspired by the psychoanalytic concept of unconsciously repeating emo
 tional patterns and explores inherited behaviours\, destructive cycles an
