SUMMARY:Codeine
LOCATION:Hus 7\, Styckmästargatan 10\, 121 62 Johanneshov
DESCRIPTION:Band: Codeine\n\nDate: Wednesday 19 May\n\nDoors: 19:00\n\nLi
 ve from: approx. 20:00\n\nVenue: Hus 7\n\nAge limit: 18+ years / 13+ in t
he company of a parent or guardian\; read more about the rules: https://s
lakthusen.se/aldersgr…\n\nAfter a short European tour in 2023 (with sol
d-out shows in London and Paris) and later shows in South America and Jap
an\, 90s band Codeine is returning to play a dozen shows in support of it
s lost album Dessau\, recorded in 1992 but released relatively recently b
y the archival record label Numero Group. Remastered vinyl editions of th
e band’s original records are also being released on Sub Pop and Glitte
 rhouse.\n\nThese will be Codeine’s first-ever shows in Turkey\, Sweden
and Norway\, as well as their first-ever shows in several cities in Belgi
um\, France\, Germany and Italy.\n\nWith the release of Frigid Stars LP (
1990)\, Codeine largely invented on its own what would later come to be c
alled “slowcore”. The album came half a decade before influential rec
ords by related bands such as Low and Duster. Codeine’s slow\, elegant
songs carry lyrics that portray depression and dissociation in an unsettl
ingly quiet way — a feeling of estrangement from oneself and reality.
