SUMMARY:På den här sidan glaset
LOCATION:Medelhavsmuseet\, Fredsgatan 2\, 111 52 Stockholm
DESCRIPTION:På den här sidan glaset – Museum visitors and reactions t
o human remains in exhibitions\n\nIn recent years\, museums and academics
have grappled with the question: should we display and study the human r
emains in our collections? If so\, what is the ethical way to do it? The
discussion continues without a clear answer in sight – most likely beca
use the question is so difficult – but with a growing understanding tha
t both the remains and the contexts differ greatly from one another.\n\nO
ne group that is rarely heard in the debate is museum visitors. Through t
hree large-scale audience surveys\, Nicole Creszenzi has mapped the thoug
hts and opinions of European museum visitors on human remains in exhibiti
ons\, and is now sharing her findings.\n\nDr Nicole Crescenzi is an archa
eologist and visiting researcher at Scuola IMT Alti Studi Lucca\, where s
he completed her PhD in the analysis and management of cultural heritage.
She is part of the LYNX research unit – Centre for the Interdisciplina
ry Analysis of Images\, Contexts\, Cultural Heritage. She has been a visi
ting researcher at Linnaeus University and Stockholm University\, and has
extensive experience of archaeological fieldwork and conducting visitor
surveys. Her research currently focuses on human remains in museum exhibi
tions\, from the perspectives of both museums and visitors.\n\nPlease not
e that the talk will be given in English.
