DESCRIPTION:Brev till mitt barn - Sånger byggda på judiska och persiska
texter!\n\nMezzo-soprano Annastina Malm\, guitarist David Härenstam and
a string ensemble perform Jewish\, Persian and Spanish chamber music!\n\
nBenjamin Staern's work Brev till mitt barn\, for string quartet and voic
e\, is based on Ilse Weber's poignant poems written in Theresienstadt con
centration camp.\n\nThe music's five movements range from fragility to dr
ama\, weaving together klezmer and classical modernism.\n\nThe work depic
ts Weber's tragic fate\, shifting intensely between despair\, longing and
tenderness.\n\nThe concert also features two world premieres: *Benjamin
Staern: A new work based on Persian texts translated into Swedish. *Dan T
heorin: The piece A busstop in Vasco da Gama for string quartet and guita
r draws on Indian folk music.\n\nThe music reflects on Gaspar da Gama\, a
Jewish interpreter and explorer who was forced to convert to Christianit
y under persecution.\n\nHe was invaluable to the Portuguese voyages of di
scovery\, an adviser to the King of Portugal and an important intermediar
y between Portugal and Asia\, but is now largely forgotten.\n\nYou will a
lso hear music by the wonderful composer Erwin Schulhoff.\n\nIt was more
than 50 years after his death in Wülzburg concentration camp before the
Czech composer began to receive the recognition he deserved.\n\nHe was on
e of many composers whose works were labelled Entartete Musik by the Nazi
regime\, and he was effectively silenced by the harsh political and soci
 al mechanisms…
