Hedvig Eleonora kyrka, Stockholm
Vanhal och Beethoven – två tonsättare, samma Wien
Join us on a musical journey from Johan Baptist Vanhal’s elegant and virtuosic double bass concerto to Beethoven’s magnificent Seventh Symphony. The double bass is usually the orchestra’s quiet workhorse, holding everything together without being noticed.
On 11 October, the double bass takes centre stage in Hedvig Eleonora kyrka.
Fabian Dahlkvist is the soloist in Johan Baptist Vanhal’s double bass concerto, one of the best-loved eighteenth-century works for the instrument. Fabian is a double bassist in Gävle symfoniorkester.
Singing melodies, breathtaking virtuosity and a warmth rarely associated with the orchestra’s largest string instrument. Hearing a double bass as a solo instrument is a rare experience.
After the interval, you will hear Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, a work Wagner called “the very apotheosis of the dance”. Pulsating rhythms and infectious energy from the first bar to the finale.
One concert, two sides of the same passion.
Stockholms Symfoniorkester.
