Tomoki Sanders
Tomoki Sanders (US) | Naima Nefertari (SE) —
Stockholm Jazz Festival. Two organisers. Two unique concerts. One ticket. An evening not to be missed!
ABF’s new cultural venue K2 and Fylkingen launch their collaboration by presenting a double concert during Stockholm Jazz Festival on Friday 16 October, featuring Tomoki Sanders and Naima Nefertari.
As the new cultural venue K2 opens in ABF-huset on Sveavägen, it is quickly becoming a meeting place for some of today’s most vital musical expressions. As part of the new collaboration between ABF Stockholm and Fylkingen, a joint concert evening is now being presented during Stockholm Jazz Festival, weaving two independent concerts into a complete experience – all with a single ticket.
The evening opens with Naima Nefertari, presented by Fylkingen in collaboration with Tensta konsthall, followed by Tomoki Sanders, presented by ABF/K2 as part of Stockholm Jazz Festival 2026.
The collaboration marks the start of a new joint initiative in which Fylkingen, one of Stockholm’s most important organisations for innovative music, meets K2, a new initiative for domestic and international contemporary music. Since 1933, Fylkingen has been one of the world’s oldest and most influential forums for experimental music and interdisciplinary art, while K2 is establishing itself as a new venue where adult education, art and music meet in the heart of Stockholm. Together, they are creating a place where genres, traditions and audiences can meet in new ways.
Tomoki Sanders
Saxophonist Tomoki Sanders is one of the most talked-about musicians of New York’s new generation. As the child of legendary saxophonist Pharoah Sanders, they carry one of the most significant surnames in jazz history, while developing a distinctly individual artistic practice that brings together Great Black Music, free improvisation, electronic music, hip-hop and avant-garde expression.
In recent years, Sanders has become known through their work with Kassa Overall’s band and as a central figure in New York’s young music scene, not least through the recurring "Tomo Tuesdays". With their debut album due for release in 2026, Sanders is already being hailed as one of the most exciting new voices on the international jazz and experimental music scene – where the legacy of the Impulse! era meets the boundary-free expression of today.
Tomoki Sanders: tenor & soprano saxophone
Paul “PapaBear” Johnson: bass
Ian Finkelstein: keyboards
Christian Napoleon: drums
Naima Nefertari
Naima Nefertari is an interdisciplinary artist, pianist, composer and improviser working between London and Sweden. Her music moves at the intersection of minimalism, free improvisation and organic music, where repetition, symbolism and intuitive interplay shape a deeply personal expression.
As Don Cherry’s granddaughter and archivist for the Moki Cherry Estate, she carries forward a significant musical legacy, while her own artistic practice clearly stands in its own right. She recently released the album Journey to Nabta Playa with Angel Bat Dawid, hosts the well-regarded NTS Radio programme Fragrant Sacrifice and is also part of the duo Exotic Sin alongside Japanese multi-instrumentalist Kenichi Iwasa.
