What can emerge from friction? A sealed urban ground, the roar of traffic, and distant crickets evoke ecological fractures that demand adaptation. Rather than retreating, three performers scrape layers of asphalt with specially prepared shoes, turning friction into the motor of choreography, sound, and light. The performance oscillates between collective rhythm and fragmented gesture, between pop-cultural references and abstract physical states. Heat Island subtly alludes to TikTok choreographies, viral trends, and music videos, in which attention and meaning emerge and evaporate just as quickly as sparks. Heat Island is both a reflection on urban temporality and a choreography of friction and transformation. Heat Island, av Chiara Bartl-Salvi, presenteras inom festivalen September Sessions — En festival för samtidskonst i Stockholm 10–13.9 2026 September Sessions är en fyra dagar lång konstfestival i Stockholm, initierad 2023 av Index – The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation och Mint. Festivalen September Sessions lyfter fram mångfalden inom Stockholms konstscen och fungerar också också som en plattform för oberoende curatorer. Varje upplaga innehåller ett särskilt curerat program av en inbjuden curator som tillfälligt aktiverar staden genom projekt presenterade på unika platser. I år är det curatorn Joel Valabrega som är baserad i Porto och Milano.

Heat Island, by Chiara Bartl-Salvi, is presented within the festival September Sessions — A Contemporary Art Festival in Stockholm 10–13.9 2026 September Sessions is a four-day art festival in Stockholm, initiated in 2023 by Index – The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation and Mint. While celebrating the diversity of Stockholm’s art scene, September Sessions also serves as a platform for independent curators. Each edition features a specially curated program by an invited curator, temporarily activating the city through projects presented at unique locations. For the 2026 edition, a series of exhibitions and events will be presented by Accelerator, Antics, Beau Travail, Bonniers Konsthall, Filmform, Fylkingen, IASPIS, Index, Konsthall C, Konträr, Liljevalchs, MDT, Mint, and Tensta Konsthall, alongside a specially curated program by Joel Valabrega.
