The Afternoon Tea tradition originated in Victorian Britain in the early 1840s. Anna Russell, Duchess of Bedford, is said to have secretly ordered a pot of tea and something to eat to be brought to her room in the afternoon, at a time when people ate only breakfast and dinner. When Anna began inviting her friends, including Queen Victoria, the tradition spread and tea parties became popular. Scones appeared in the 20th century. Hedvig Eleonora parish has been serving Afternoon Tea since 2014.
