Upiro

BROKEN MONASTIC VOWS AND BLOODTHIRSTY NOVICES

The year is 1755. A young woman is sent to a convent where several novices have been struck by a mysterious blood disease. An unconventional Franciscan friar begins investigating the events, but his methods clash with the scientific outlook of the Enlightenment. Has an Upiro – a vampire – infiltrated the convent?

Óscar Martín (Amigo) bases his evocative horror film on the first case of vampirism documented by the Catholic Church on the Iberian Peninsula. With Javier Botet in the cast and special effects by Oscar winners David Martí and Montse Ribé (Pans labyrint), this atmospheric horror film blends historical drama with legends of bloodthirsty vampires and demonic possession.
