Vänsterns blåsorkester 50 år

Vänsterns Blåsorkester, an amateur orchestra described by many as “the world’s friendliest orchestra”, has been playing at demonstrations and rallies in public squares since 1976 for everyone whose “heart is on the left”.

We have played for volunteers who fought in Spain at La Mano and at every Vänsterpartiet May Day march since 1977, and have taken part in several election campaigns, often performing in Stockholm’s suburbs. We also frequently and gladly play at politically independent gatherings. These may be meetings focusing on peace, the environment, equality, solidarity and similar themes. We have toured Italy and Bolivia and have also held our own concerts with a variety of musical programmes (Weill-Eisler, Bulgarian folk music, jazz by Charlie Haden, contemporary Dutch wind music)

We are now turning 50 and invite you to an anniversary concert featuring music that reflects the orchestra’s repertoire over those 50 years. The orchestra will perform classic pieces by Kurt Weill and Hanns Eisler, as well as contemporary music composed and/or arranged by Håkan Carlsson, Dror Feiler, Jonas Forssell, Per-Åke Holmlander and Otto Remmer.

Taking part are several of our conductors over the years (Jonas Forssell, Per-Åke Holmlander, Birgit Stare and Otto Remmer), along with the choir Trots Allt. Also taking part are the poets Jenny Wrangborg and Göran Greider, with Dror Feiler, Ivo Nilsson and PerÅke Holmlander as soloists
