Oscar-winning Pedro Almodóvar returns with a new masterpiece, the acclaimed film AUTOFIKTION, which competed at Cannes. In Almodóvar’s own words, it is his most personal film.

After her mother dies, commercials director Elsa immerses herself in work to cope. When migraines force her to take a break, she decides to travel to Lanzarote for a long weekend in 2004 with her friend Patricia, while her boyfriend (stripper and firefighter Bonifacio) stays in Madrid.

To get back into creative writing, she explores her close friends’ personal suffering. In a present-day timeline, filmmaker Raúl is writing a screenplay that turns out to be the story of Elsa, Raúl’s alter ego. Raúl delves into autofiction to overcome a creative block, drawing on his own life, his boyfriend Santi and his assistant Mónica.
