Svensk humor
It is still the middle of the night. His wife and children are asleep. Liam is working on his sitcom. He has a twisted mission: he is going to save Swedish humour. He is not an alcoholic, he is inspired. He is not manic, he is a romantic. He is not suicidal, he is a parasite.
A poet, that is. Welcome to the radicalisation.
SVENSK HUMOR is Elis Monteverde Burrau’s third play and first monologue. It is the most personal thing he has written, which is why he felt compelled to direct it himself. Jacques Karlberg is an actor; he plays Liam. That is mail backwards.
LIAM
I think you should be consistent. You must not change the way you live. I have to write my sitcom so that I can sell my sitcom. I take back every bad thing I have ever said about the sitcom as a genre. It is for angels.
Dramatic pause.
I have to swallow my sitcom and vomit up my pride. I have to become proud. I intend to become proud.
