Gamla stan – gatunamnen berättar

On the old façades in Gamla Stan, signs display the names of streets and alleys. Sometimes the names tell a story about people who lived here long ago. Sometimes there are other explanations for the names of the streets and alleys.

The winding alleys here are unlike those in other parts of Stockholm. Gamla Stan’s role in Stockholm’s history is unique; for many centuries, this was the City.
