Ragnarök

Sometimes musical encounters feel as though they were written by fate’s most far-sighted oracle.

When Ragnarök formed 54 years ago, it was an act of desperation in the face of blues-rock fundamentalism in their home town of Kalmar, and breaking new ground required alternative role models. One of these was Jojje Wadenius’s band Made in Sweden, which became an early template for learning new techniques, unfamiliar tones and unusual sounds.

When Jojje recently died unexpectedly, a request came in for the original members of Ragnarök to honour him with a tribute concert, and nothing could have felt more natural. In fact, once the idea takes hold, it becomes obvious how Made in Sweden’s sound world occasionally peeks through the sonic tapestry of Ragnarök’s legendary debut album.

So now we’re going on tour, opening at Kalmar Woodstock on 29 June, under the banner Ragnarök spelar Made in Sweden.
