Christmas 1983. After yet another violent argument, seven-year-old Andrev’s mum reveals a secret to him: his dad isn’t actually his dad.

Rather than being devastated, Andrev is excited by the possibilities this revelation opens up. With a child’s resilience, he navigates life and his mum’s more or less destructive relationships with various men.

Andrev’s mum attracts men with irresistible force, but even she can’t control how they behave. The men are like magicians or artists, murderers or thieves, and, like growing pains, they turn up uninvited and disappear without warning.
