Drink The Sea
Supergroup Drink The Sea brings its globe-spanning debut to Nalen Featuring members of R.E.M., Screaming Trees, Mad Season and Eleven, Drink The Sea brings together some of the most renowned musicians, songwriters and producers of the 1990s.
With three albums shaped by recording sessions across several continents, where classic rock meets influences from every corner of the world, the supergroup comes to Nalen in Stockholm on 12 October as part of its second world tour.
It all began in 2022 during a jam session between Alain Johannes and Barrett Martin in Olympia, Washington. From there, Drink The Sea grew through new collaborations and recording sessions in Reykjavik, São Paulo, Joshua Tree, Santiago de Chile and Barcelona. The two debut albums were thus literally recorded around the world, something that also left its mark on the music.
The band is now preparing to release its third album, Drink The Sea III, worldwide on 2 October 2026. It too was recorded on the road and while touring in the USA, Chile and Brazil. Produced by Barrett Martin and Alain Johannes, the album builds on the band's genre-crossing songwriting and distinctive palette of instrumental sounds.
The band's music is rooted in classic rock and traditional guitar, bass and drum line-ups, but its sound extends far beyond that. The Arabic oud, Indian sitar and Indonesian gamelan meet percussion instruments such as the Brazilian surdo, frame drum, vibraphone, marimba and kalimba, drawing on influences from every corner of the world to give the band a distinctive and atmospheric sound.
Hailed as one of the world's most adventurous live bands, Drink The Sea embarks on its second world tour this autumn. This time, an extensive European tour awaits, with headline shows approaching two and a half hours. Material from all three albums and films by award-winning filmmaker Tad Fettig will form part of the live show. On 12 October, Drink The Sea comes to Nalen in Stockholm.
