SVENSK HUMOR
It is still the middle of the night. His wife and children are asleep. Liam is working on his sitcom. He has a twisted mission: to save Swedish humour. He is not an alcoholic, he is inspired. He is not manic, he is a romantic. He is not suicidal, he is a parasite.
That is to say, a poet. Welcome to radicalisation.
SVENSK HUMOR is Elis Monteverde Burrau's third play and first monologue. It is the most personal thing he has written, which is why he felt compelled to direct it himself. Jacques Karlberg is an actor; he plays Liam. That's mail backwards.
LIAM
I think you should be consistent. You mustn't change the way you live. I have to write my sitcom so that I can sell my sitcom. I take back every bad thing I have ever said about the sitcom as a genre. It is for angels.
Dramatic pause.
I have to swallow my sitcom and vomit up my pride. I have to become proud. I am going to be proud.
