Paris 25-årsjubileum + Dödsdisko
Paris celebrate 25 years with 2 reunion gigs Support: Dödsdisko
They turned the DIY ethos into a religion, turned down major record labels and used an ironing board as a synth stand. This is Paris, the indie pop band from Stockholm who broke through on the alternative music scene in the early 2000s. Now they are back with two reunion gigs: on the stage at Kollektivet Livet on 6 November and at The Abyss in Gothenburg on 7 November.
With ZTV and P3 hits such as Streetlights and Disco Fever, they created their own musical universe where emotion, melody and playfulness meet. Drawing on indie pop, new wave and alternative rock, Paris made their mark on the Swedish music scene as an energetic live band with a strong identity and artistic creativity.
The band consists of:
Emma Nylén – vocals and keyboards (also known as the artist EMMON)
Annika Mellin (now Thorell) – vocals and guitar (known from This Diamond Ring and The Mad Men Band)
Mattias Svensson – bass (also a member of The Exploding Boy)
Johan Efraimsson – drums
Fredrik Strage:
"I heard Paris's first demo compilation, Greatest hits Vol 1, in 2001 and interviewed them in DN the following year for an article about the pop stars of the future. They said their favourite colour was 'neon brown', that their favourite chord was A minor and that they wanted to write songs about 'falling in love, partying or fantasising about people you've seen on TV'. I remember Paris as one of the most likeable bands of the early 2000s."
Over the years, Paris have released their own demo compilations and several acclaimed studio albums: Yellow Eden (2003), Secrets on Tape (2005) and The Landlord Is Kind Enough to Let Us Have Our Little Sessions (2007). Their EP Les Amis De Paris and singles such as Hey Sailor and Rainy Day in London have become favourites among fans of Swedish indie pop.
Autumn 2026 marks 25 years since their debut gig on the demo stage at Hultsfredsfestivalen.
Emma on their first gig:
"We spread our music through home-burnt demo CDs that we handed out and sent to everyone we could think of. Suddenly, Rockparty got in touch and wanted us to play on the demo stage at Hultsfredsfestivalen. We had never performed live as Paris before, so we recruited Johan as our drummer, rehearsed like mad – and three weeks later we were on stage together for the very first time."
For just over a decade, they toured Scandinavia and Germany, and even made a brief trip to Belarus. They appeared on German TV, made Aftonbladet's hot list and had songs featured in Swedish films such as Fröken Sverige. Despite all this, their indie image remained intact – the mainstream simply wasn't their thing.
To mark the 25th anniversary of their first gig, Paris are now making their live comeback with two unique shows: at Kollektivet Livet in Stockholm on 6 November and at The Abyss in Gothenburg on 7 November – this time with considerably more experience than on that sunny June day in 2001.
Annika says:
"Lots of people have asked us where we went. Life got in the way, but we've always remained close friends, kept making music and played in other line-ups. After years of requests and encouragement from friends and fans, we're keen to get back on stage together. We love our little band and love playing together – and we know you want to experience this too, so let's do it!"
Paris promise a nostalgic trip back to the early 2000s and will play all their most requested songs.
