Msafiri Zawose

Masafiri Zawose is the son of the legendary musician and singer Huckle Zawose, who released several records on Peter Gabriel’s Real World label and toured the world to share the traditional Wagogo music of his home village, Bagamoyo.

Msafiri and his siblings have carried on the tradition.

Using traditional instruments such as Ilimba and Zeze, he creates hypnotic music, often based on the harmonic series. Msafiri has formed larger ensembles of traditional instruments at home, while also collaborating with musicians from a wide range of genres, including Swedish producer Marcus Price.

During his visit to Sweden last year, he also had the chance to perform at Klubb Mariama for the first time, leaving everyone wanting more. This time, he is coming to Pygméteatern to give a longer concert, and we are proud and delighted to welcome him back to Klubb Mariama.

The concert is supported by Sthlm Stad and Kulturrådet, and presented in collaboration with the adult education association Bilda.
