Samtal: Ungernrevolten 1956 – 70 år senare
What can a revolution from 1956 teach us about freedom, the power of major states and our own times?
In the autumn of 1956, people in Hungary rose up against the communist regime and the influence of the then Soviet Union. On 4 November, Soviet forces entered Hungary and crushed the uprising with military force. Thousands of people were killed and around 200,000 Hungarians fled the country.
What can the Hungarian Uprising teach us about the ambitions of major powers and people's determination to defend freedom and self-determination? Can we draw any parallels with our own times?
Meet author and researcher Gellert Kovacs and author and historian Artur Szulc in conversation with Peter Zander from Armémuseum.
