Intiman, Stockholm
Brokeback Mountain
One of the most talked-about love stories of our time comes to Intiman this autumn in a powerful stage adaptation with live music on stage.
The iconic story Brokeback Mountain, which has touched millions through Annie Proulx’s award-winning short story and the Oscar-winning film, now takes on new life on stage in Stockholm.
The acclaimed stage adaptation, which has played to sold-out houses in London’s West End, has its Swedish premiere on 19 November 2026 and runs at Intiman throughout the autumn and winter.
In the leading roles are Malte Gårdinger as Ennis Del Mar (known for, among other things, the TV series Young Royals and Vaka) and Samuel Astor as Jack Twist (Young Royals, Åremorden and the acclaimed play Arv at Dramaten) – two young men whose lives change forever during a summer in the magnificent mountains of Wyoming.
Jill Johnson also appears on stage with her band, performing live music whose distinctive country sound creates a vibrant musical atmosphere and takes the audience straight into the story’s raw and poetic landscape.
The script has been translated and adapted for the Swedish stage by William Spetz, and the production is directed by Sara Giese.
A love story that never lets go Wyoming, 1963.
When Jack and Ennis meet during a seasonal job on the rugged and isolated Brokeback Mountain, a strong friendship initially develops.
It soon grows into something more – a love they barely dare to understand, but which changes their lives forever.
But away from the mountain, different rules apply.
When summer ends, they return to their everyday lives – to families, duties and expectations in a world where their love is not allowed to exist.
The years pass, but the memory of that summer never leaves them.
They meet again and again, in brief moments of freedom – always aware of everything they risk losing.
What happens when two people are forced to live their entire lives without the person they truly belong with?
Brokeback Mountain is a moving musical story of passion, secrets and forbidden love.
With powerful performances, live music on stage and a story that has touched generations, an intimate and emotionally charged theatre experience awaits at Intiman this autumn.
