Hellmare - gästas av Lloyd Kaufman

LLOYD KAUFMAN INTRODUCES THE FILM! WHEN YOU GET SUCKED INTO THE FILM AND CAN'T SWITCH IT OFF

It's 1997 in Detroit. A group of friends gather in a newly inherited house to watch a rare horror flick on VHS: Hellmare, about a disfigured killer with a horse's head. During a thunderstorm, they are sucked into the film – and have to fight both Hellmare and the villains from the trailers that played before the film.

Victor Gabriel (Blood Gorge, Cruel) delivers a deliberately unambitious, maximalist love letter to 90s video shop horror and the spirit of Evil Dead. The film was made for under $15,000, with practical gore effects and a cameo by Lloyd Kaufman as the dead occultist grandfather. Victor Gabriel wanted to make something fun after an era of trauma metaphors: more Creepshow than Hereditary.

Hellmare is messy, meta and very much on target.
