Fredens Oas fredsarbete i Israel
Culture’s contribution to the peace process in the Middle East is a significant force in efforts to foster mutual understanding between Jews and Palestinians. However, these activities are easily drowned out by the clamour of war, protests and demonstrations.
The village of Wahat al-Salam/Neve Shalom (Fredens Oas), situated halfway between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, was founded in the 1970s by Jews and Palestinians who voluntarily chose to live there. A binational school for compulsory education and Skola för Fred for adult education have been established there. Since then, many children and adults have received long-term education in coexistence and cooperation across ethnic boundaries.
Two of the leaders of Skolan för Fred, Sigalit Warshawski and Maisoon Badawi, are coming to Stockholm with 10 of their current and former students to present the school’s work, the methods of dialogue-based education they have developed and the significance of the school once students have returned to their professional roles.
The discussion is moderated by Ricki Neuman.
