Before the Last Octopus
A film about octopuses, illegal fishing and the power of collective marine conservation. After the film, we will be joined by volunteers from Sea Shepherd!
The Mediterranean is the world’s most overfished sea, and time is running out for its octopuses. In northern Greece, a group of international conservationists is working to stop the illegal fishing of these intelligent and often overlooked animals.
The documentary follows Sea Shepherd Global’s work over three months at sea. With the help of local fishers, researchers and authorities, the team tries to combat illegal fishing and protect octopus populations. In the process, they haul tens of thousands of illegal traps from the depths of the sea – in tough and sometimes very demanding conditions.
Before the Last Octopus offers a unique insight into a world that few people get to see. The film shows both how serious the situation is for our seas and what an enormous difference people can make when they work together.
Half of the ticket revenue goes towards Sea Shepherd’s work.
