Under the cover of night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, the Oscar-winning directors behind No Other Land meet Israeli soldiers who lay bare the systematic killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

We made this film out of a sense of duty to use our position as Israelis to scrutinise the systems behind the mass killing of Palestinian civilians for which our country is responsible. During the three years we worked on the film, we asked ourselves the same questions as our grandparents’ generation – and people throughout the 20th century – have asked: How can one group of people allow another group to be completely dehumanised? What do the inner workings of such a system look like?

Many of the revelations highlighted in the film were published almost immediately by The Guardian (one of the film’s producers) in collaboration with +972 Magazine and Local Call. The film gives us the opportunity, unlike journalism, to explore something deeper: not just the words that are actually spoken, but also those that remain unspoken – the silence. It is up to all of us to break that silence.
