Christmas 1983. After yet another violent argument, seven-year-old Andrev’s mother reveals a secret to him: his dad isn’t actually his dad.

Instead of being devastated, Andrev is excited by the possibilities this revelation opens up. With a child’s resilience, he makes his way through life and his mother’s more or less destructive relationships with different men.

Andrev’s mother attracts men with an irresistible force, but even she can’t control how they behave. The men are like magicians or artists, murderers or thieves, and, like growing pains, they appear uninvited and disappear without warning.
