Debaser Strand, Stockholm
The Longest Johns
British folk band The Longest Johns, known worldwide for their powerful vocal harmonies and infectious energy, are coming to Sweden for an exclusive gig at Debaser Strand in Stockholm on 23 September.
Since forming around a kitchen table in Bristol in 2012, The Longest Johns have breathed new life into traditional sea shanties and work songs. With a unique combination of maritime folk music, humour and a contemporary presence, they have built a devoted following far beyond the UK's borders.
Their big breakthrough came in 2021 when their version of “Wellerman” went viral on TikTok and sparked the global “ShantyTok” trend – a phenomenon that reintroduced sea shanties to a new generation and led to a record deal with Decca Records.
The band are now releasing their tenth album, which concludes the ambitious “Pieces of Eight” project – a series of eight EP releases now compiled into a 24-track edition. Over the coming year, they will continue their intensive touring schedule with more than 100 gigs in Europe, North America and Australia.
The Longest Johns move effortlessly between tradition and the present day. In 2024, they released the fan-funded album Voyage alongside a book containing short stories, illustrations and lyrics. They have also made their mark in the digital world – from viral successes to collaborations with the gaming world, including at the opening of Pokémon Europe International Championships 2025.
With more than 500,000 subscribers on YouTube and nearly 700,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, The Longest Johns are one of the most prominent names in modern folk music. Now Swedish audiences have the chance to experience their acclaimed live performance when they take to the stage at Debaser Strand on 23 September.
