Föreställning om Peter Weiss och Rannsakningen
On 30 September, excerpts from Peter Weiss’s play Rannsakningen will be performed, blending theatrical performance, music and talks. We explore the play’s creation, reception and significance today.
Taking part are actors from the Dramaten ensemble, alongside musicians Anna Lindal on violin and Håkan Trygger on double bass.
Peter Weiss’s modern classic Rannsakningen is based on transcripts from the Auschwitz trials in Frankfurt am Main in 1963–1965. The play presents testimony from survivors, witnesses and the accused. It was first staged in Sweden at Dramaten in 1966, directed by Ingmar Bergman. The set design was by Gunilla Palmstierna-Weiss, who was married to Peter Weiss.
The performance interweaves readings from Rannsakningen with music and storytelling.
Concept and direction: Kristina Hagström-Ståhl, director, dramaturg and translator, as well as a researcher in the performing arts. She teaches theatre studies at Stockholm University and is a scientific adviser for artistic research at the Swedish Research Council.
In collaboration with the publisher Faethon and Kungliga Dramatiska Teatern in Stockholm
