Wrangelska Palatset

Wrangelska Palatset – home to Svea Hovrätt.

For the past 250 years, Svea Hovrätt has been housed in Wrangelska Palatset on Riddarholmen. The palace’s history, however, goes back even further. A palace was built here as early as 1630, commissioned by Privy Councillor Lars Sparre. Nearly two decades later, it was purchased by Queen Kristina, who gave it as a gift to Carl Gustaf Wrangel and his wife. After Tre Kronor castle burnt down in the mid-17th century, the palace was converted into a residence for the royal family. Svea Hovrätt and Statskontoret moved in 100 years later, and it was here, among other things, that Jacob Johan Anckarström was sentenced to death for the murder of Gustav III.
