Reading: The Awake

Playwright and actor Jenna Fincken visits Playhouse for an exclusive reading of her work-in-progress play “The Awake” – don’t miss it! During her visit, Jenna Fincken will spend two days developing the play with a group of actors.

The workshop will conclude with a reading, marking the very first time this play is presented to an audience!

Jenna Fincken is an award-winning actor and writer who visited Playhouse in spring 2024 with a reading of “Ruckus”, her acclaimed debut play. Since its premiere, “Ruckus” has been nominated for a WhatsOnStage Award, was runner-up in the Popcorn Writing Award with BBC Writersroom, and has toured across the UK. Jenna Fincken also works as a director, most recently directing “Posh” at Royal & Derngate.

“The Awake” is a psychological horror play set in a future where sleep has been eradicated in the name of progress – and where dreams have become something to diagnose, control and ultimately eliminate. The play explores our obsession with self-improvement and optimisation, and asks what might be lost when we try to fix the parts of ourselves that we do not fully understand.
