SOFIA HK

Following last year’s acclaimed, successful debut I Norr, and not one but two appearances at Debaser, Sofia HK is finally releasing her first album, Flocken.

The release will be celebrated at Nova on 22 November, and if you haven’t already discovered this folk singer from Jämtland who sings straight to the listener’s heart, now is the time. One of “Sweden’s next big names in music”, according to GAFFA.

The album features guest appearances by Kristian Matsson (The Tallest Man On Earth), Sara Parkman and Levina Storåkern (Aevestaden/Diket), among others, and is produced by Grammis-winning Hampus Norén. Flocken centres on the collective and the need for community and belonging. The music explores the security of being part of something bigger than yourself, but also the experience of being left outside it. The lyrics move between love and loneliness, people and landscape, city and village, body and soul.

"I wrote a song about clear-cut forests and a song about the animals back home. Then I wrote a song about eating disorders, a song about unwanted intimacy and one about being so in love you don’t know what to do with yourself – and somehow, against all the bloody odds, there was a common thread running through it all." – Sofia HK.
