Palestina 36

See Palestine’s Oscar entry at Södra Sthlm Filmfest! To understand what is happening today, we need to know how it all began.

The year is 1936, and Palestine is under British colonial rule. The farmer’s son Yusuf dreams of a freer future, but is torn between his home village and life in Jerusalem. As the British Empire tightens its grip and Jewish immigration increases, anxiety and resistance grow among the Palestinian population. The conflict soon escalates into a confrontation that will have decisive consequences, not only for Yusuf but for the future of the entire country.

Annemarie Jacir combines powerful emotions with intimate details in a historical ensemble drama set during the British Mandate in Palestine, starring Jeremy Irons and Hiam Abbas.
