Fuori – Konsten att glädjas

A CAPTIVATING PORTRAIT OF A WRITER, A TRIBUTE TO FREEDOM Rome, 1980. After her book Konsten att glädjas is rejected by the Italian publishing world, writer Goliarda Sapienza ends up in prison, convicted of stealing jewellery.

Meeting her younger female fellow inmates becomes a life-changing experience. After their release, the women from the prison continue to meet during an oppressively hot summer in Rome.

Goliarda forms a deep bond with Roberta, a repeat offender and political activist. It is a relationship that no outsider understands, but one that allows Goliarda to rediscover the art of joy and regain her creative drive.

The screenplay is based on Goliarda Sapienza's 1983 novel L'Università di Rebibbia.
