Battle of Giants: Kiss and Iron Maiden 1980
After delving as deeply as possible into “Music From The Elder” last year, Glickman/Marks Sthlm now winds the time machine back just over a year, landing in 1980.
In 1980, Kiss release “Unmasked”, the last album to feature the original line-up, even if only on the cover and in a music video. That autumn, the band set off on a European tour with new drummer Eric Carr. The venues are smaller than before. Sales of the new album are lower than expected. A new band from England called Iron Maiden – whose career is rocketing upwards at the same time – are the support act. On 9 October, the tour reaches Eriksdalshallen in Stockholm, a so-called “holy grail” for both Kiss and Maiden fans in Sweden. Perhaps, in hindsight, the joint tour could be seen as a kind of changing of the guard in the rock world?
Over a full day at Maximteatern, we will explore 1980 from the perspectives of both Kiss and Iron Maiden, with a strong focus on their joint tour and visit to Stockholm.
On stage, the oracle Alex Bergdahl gives a talk about Kiss during the “Umasked” era. Maidenpodden reunites to talk about the early years of Maiden, when the band were hungry for life. Both sessions are accompanied by rarely seen footage from that year.
In addition, Nighthawk will perform the entire “Unmasked” album – to our knowledge, for the first time ever in Sweden.
The event runs from 14:00 to 22:00.
