Helena Franzén – Personligt utrymme

What is your personal space? A poetic and thought-provoking dance performance for children aged 9–12 about boundaries, respect and the courage to be yourself.

How close do we want to be to one another? What happens when someone steps into your personal space? And how do we find the balance between togetherness and privacy?

In Personligt utrymme, choreographer Helena Franzén raises questions about personal boundaries and how we relate physically to one another in different situations. Through movement, music, lighting and an ever-changing set, the performance explores questions of boundaries, closeness, friendship and the courage to be yourself.

Bodies, feelings and relationships are set in motion, prompting thoughts about privacy, respect and togetherness at a time when boundaries are constantly being negotiated. An imaginative and visual dance performance for children aged 9–12 and families about finding your own place in the world.

About Helena Franzén

Helena Franzen has been one of the leading figures in contemporary dance for several decades. Over a career spanning 35 years, she has created nearly 100 works for the stage, presented nationally and internationally. In 2011 and 2014, Helena Franzén received the Swedish Theatre Critics’ Dance Award and the Gannevik Grant. Helena Franzén is a sought-after teacher and mentor, and regularly teaches on a wide range of dance training programmes around the world. She has toured Scandinavia, the USA, South America and the Baltic states, and undertaken a wide variety of commissions for organisations including Skånes Dansteater, Norrdans, The EDge company, London and Göteborgs operans Danskompani.

For just over ten years, Helena Franzén has collaborated with filmmaker and photographer Håkan Jelk, who has designed the sets and lighting for several of Helena’s performances. Together they have created dance films, several of which have been presented at international dance film festivals.
