Naturhistoriska Riksmuseet

One of the country’s major visitor attractions and a world-class research institution.

Naturhistoriska Riksmuseet has been teaching visitors about nature since the mid-18th century and remains Sweden’s largest museum. Its collections contain millions of objects, some of which are unique in the world. Through its permanent and temporary exhibitions, the museum aims to share knowledge about the evolution of nature, the Earth and the Universe, and how this has affected society and humanity. Inside, exhibitions explore human evolution, from early human species to today’s Homo sapiens, the differences between humans and other animals, dinosaurs, meteorites and gemstones. There are also children’s activities such as Skogsmulle and a creative workshop, as well as one of the country’s only dome cinemas – Cosmonova. Films are shown here in the world’s largest film format on a 760-square-metre screen.
