Gustav III:s Paviljong

One of the highlights of Swedish art history!

In the late 18th century, King Gustav III commissioned a summer palace in Hagaparken, working with the acclaimed architect Olof Tempelman. Louis Masreliez, also one of the leading artists of the time, was commissioned to design the interiors. Today, the building is regarded as one of the greatest highlights of Swedish art history and one of northern Europe’s finest works from the late 18th century. Gustav III only had a couple of years to enjoy his summer residence. It was from here that the king set off for the fatal masked ball at Operan in 1792. Today, the pavilion is open to the public during the summer months, and its acclaimed interiors can be viewed on guided tours.
