Karlbergs Slott

17th-century palace in Solna.

Karlbergs Slott was built as a manorial estate by Lord High Admiral Karl Karlsson Gyllenhielm in the 1620s. Over the years, the palace was owned by, among others, Magnus Gabriel De La Gardie, Karl XI and Gustav III, before becoming a royal military academy in 1792. Officers are still trained here today at what is the world’s oldest military academy to have operated continuously at the same location. The palace is surrounded by a leafy park with several monuments. As the park and palace are on military grounds, the park is only open to the public during the daytime, 06:00–22:00.
