Tvådagarskurs: Från kimono till origami
During this two-day course, you will explore traditional Japanese crafts in depth and work with authentic materials from Japan.
In the first session, a kimono made from woven Japanese textiles from the Meiji period is studied and taken apart.
You will then be introduced to the Japanese technique of backing fabric with paper to make bookcloth, in which fabric is glued to paper to create a durable and beautiful material.
In the second session, you will use the finished bookcloth to make your own thread box using Japanese origami techniques.
Traditional Japanese tools and materials are used throughout the course.
Course tutor Miro Burman is a bookbinder specialising in Japanese bookbinding, Japanese paper and paper construction.
