Fira fullmånen med Japanska Thesällskapet
Celebrating the full moon in autumn (known in Japanese as "Tsukimi", 月見, or “moon-viewing”) is a special tradition in Japan dating back to the Heian period (794–1185).
The Japanese art of the tea ceremony (Chado, 茶道) also includes a particular tea procedure for this occasion, which Japanska Thesällskapet will demonstrate.
The procedure is called Tsuki-demae, and the tea host keeps all the utensils in a small box. It can be performed anywhere, including outdoors in nature with the full moon in the night sky. This is one of four different procedures using small tea boxes (chabako), each associated with a different season.
Japanska Thesällskapet will explain the historical background to the procedure and various symbols that evoke autumn and the time of the full moon.
