Pianoafton med Juliette Journaux
On 21 October, we welcome French pianist Juliette Journaux, who has been named a Rising Star by the BBC and One to Watch by Gramophone.
She leads a kind of musical double life, combining the spotlight of a solo career with work behind the scenes in opera as a répétiteur and vocal coach.
Journaux trained at the Paris Conservatoire and has worked with some of today’s leading singers and lieder specialists, including Anne Sofie von Otter and Christophe Prégardien. She has also established herself as a distinguished soloist on international stages and at festivals, and has released two solo albums on Alpha Classics.
The meeting of music and song is central to her artistry. Through her own piano transcriptions of orchestral music and art songs, she brings out harmonic details and subtexts in the compositions. The piano takes on characters, sings and tells stories when Journaux is at the keyboard.
The evening’s programme includes pieces by Schubert, Brahms, Debussy, Schönberg and Korngold, with several of Journaux’s own transcriptions.
Don’t miss the chance to hear one of Europe’s most exciting young pianists when she visits us!
Join us on 21 October.
