Pontus Pettersson – A Study of Men

SVE: What can the field of dance and choreography contribute to the rehearsal of male identity? How can we think choreographically about the construction of patriarchal structures, and perhaps even dance our way out of them?

A Study of Men is a collection of choreographic works that explores masculinity, patriarchy and male identity through a shared performative format. At the same time, the project examines how artistic work can be produced in today’s cultural climate, shaped by scrutiny, changing conditions and limited resources. The work is an attempt to practise choreography within a curatorial framework, and to let a curatorial thread run through the dance itself: threading, piercing, joining and presenting.
