Introduktionskurs: Japansk teceremoni
Join us for a course in Japanese tea ceremony following the Urasenke school over ten Wednesday evenings.
Ten sessions: 14, 21, 28 October; 4, 11, 18 and 25 November; 2, 9 and 16 December.
A beginners’ course following the Urasenke school, which traces its origins to tea master Sen no Rikyū (1522-1591). We will learn a basic form of Japanese tea ceremony and come to understand its principles step by step along the way. The teaching aims to balance the aesthetic, spiritual and social aspects of the tea ceremony.
During the course, you will learn:
The roles of host and guest in a basic form of Japanese tea ceremony.
Posture, body movements, handling objects, etiquette and communication in the tea room, with and without words
An understanding of how posture and body movements influence presence, awareness and peace of mind, and create harmony between the host and guests
The course is aimed primarily at those who want to learn the practice of Japanese tea ceremony and dare to take their first step on the way of tea. The course is primarily practical, but is complemented by short lectures introducing various aspects of chadō as a whole, such as tea house architecture, the aesthetics and functionality of tea cups, hanging scrolls specific to the tea ceremony, and the history of the tea ceremony.
Tea, traditional Japanese cakes and all course materials are included in the price.
The course teachers are members of Japanska Thesällskapet, hold teaching certificates from Urasenke in Kyoto/Japan, and have at least 15 years’ experience practising Japanese tea ceremony.
Language: Swedish, with Japanese technical terms; English if not all course participants speak Swedish.
Please note! It is important to be able to attend (almost) every session, as the course gradually builds on knowledge from previous sessions. The course requires some practice at home between sessions. The course requires a basic ability to sit in “seiza” on tatami.
Waiting list: If the course is fully booked, you can join a waiting list by sending an email to [email protected]
For students under 30: In collaboration with Etnografiska museet, Japanska Thesällskapet offers a reduced price for the introductory course in Japanese tea ceremony for students under 30. To qualify for the student price, you must present a student ID or equivalent at the first session.
