Klimatet och människan
How have people throughout history dealt with a changing climate? In two recent books, Fredrik Charpentier Ljungqvist and Mats Vänehem explore 12,000 years of the climate’s impact on societies and living conditions.
Throughout history, people have been forced to adapt their living conditions to new climatic conditions. Can past transitions offer insights into the challenges now shaping our future as a result of human-driven climate change?
In his book Klimatet och människan under 12 000 år, Fredrik Charpentier Ljungqvist offers historical perspectives on how climate change has shaped societies and historical events. Mats Vänehem’s book Istider och värmeböljor som format vår historia is an illustrated work on the same theme, in a format that encourages conversations across generations about how we can create a sustainable society. The programme includes a lecture each by Fredrik and Mats, followed by a joint discussion in which the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions.
Fredrik Charpentier Ljungqvist is Professor of History, with a particular focus on historical geography, and holds the title of docent in physical geography at Stockholms universitet.
Mats Vänehem is an archaeologist, illustrator and author of several books for young people about history and archaeology.
