For over two decades, BCUC (Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness) from Soweto have channelled a powerful and uncompromising sound, blending funk, the consciousness of hip-hop and the intensity of punk into something entirely their own.

Their mantra, “music for the people, by the people, with the people”, comes to life in performances that feel as much like spiritual ceremonies as concerts.

From starting out rehearsing in a shipping container to commanding stages at Glastonbury Festival, Roskilde Festival, WOMAD and Afropunk, BCUC have built a global reputation as an exceptional live band.

Their latest album, The Road Is Never Easy, captures their Afro-psychedelic journey into the soul of Soweto: a raw, emotional and deeply human portrayal of struggle, resilience and hope. On stage, that energy becomes impossible to resist, and it is coming to Debaser Strand on 22 October.
