Kollektivet Livet, Stockholm
DJ Krush
Few artists, DJs and producers have a career as impressive and influential as that of Japan's legendary DJ Krush. Many regard him as one of the pioneers of trip-hop and abstract hip-hop – and on 28 October he is finally coming to Stockholm.
The legendary Japanese DJ was deeply inspired by the cult film Wild Style in the 1980s, which kick-started his journey into hip-hop. He began with the groups B-FRESH3 and later KRUSH POSSE – one of Japan's most groundbreaking hip-hop acts, with its unique 1MC/2DJ line-up. When the group disbanded in 1992, he fully committed to a solo career.
Since then, DJ Krush has created a musical style entirely his own, with the art of DJing at its heart. In the mid-1990s, he made his international breakthrough with his debut album KRUSH and the acclaimed Strictly Turntablized, released through British label Mo' Wax. Over the years, he has collaborated with both underground and world-famous artists, cementing his role as a key figure in global trip-hop and abstract hip-hop.
With almost 40 years on stage, he has toured the world, played in more than 60 countries and over 350 cities, and performed at iconic festivals such as Glastonbury, Sónar and Coachella. His latest album Saisei (2024) received an enthusiastic response from fans around the world and shows that he is still as relevant as ever.
As far as we know, DJ Krush has never played in Stockholm – or at least not for a very long time. That makes finally welcoming this icon here feel all the more special.
