En kväll om Sofia Gumaelius
In this lecture, you will meet advertising queen Sofia Gumaelius, founder of an influential advertising agency and a strong voice for women's rights.
At Drottninggatan 16 in Stockholm, the air is filled with the sounds of printing presses, typesetters and messengers running between editorial offices and clients. Here, amid a bustle of advertisements, ideas and new opportunities, stands founder and business leader Sofia Gumaelius. With a keen eye for business, she makes her way in an era when the business world is predominantly male, and around the turn of the 20th century, she is set to transform the entire Swedish newspaper industry with her business idea. Through her strong network, she also works to improve women's circumstances and secure universal and equal suffrage.
Charlotta Skorup, Centrum för Näringslivshistoria, tells the story of a pioneer who helped open up opportunities for women in business and society.
Welcome to an evening exploring innovative thinking and business acumen!
The lecture is part of the programme series Kvinnorna i sekelskiftets Sverige.
Tip! Make the evening extra special with a warming vegetarian soup and a glass of wine at the museum's restaurant Rosengården. The evening's special price is 160 kronor. A non-alcoholic option costs 120 kronor.
