En kväll om Ellen Key
This lecture introduces you to women’s rights campaigner Ellen Key, one of Sweden’s most pioneering thinkers.
On the shores of Lake Vättern in Östergötland, new ideas about education, democracy and women’s emancipation are flourishing. Ideas that will shape an entire century are taking form here. This is where we find Ellen Key, a pioneer, author and women’s rights campaigner. She argues for reforms that will make women financially independent, and for a life with room for both ideas and the individual. With keen insight, she connects women’s right to knowledge with the growing opportunities in working life around the turn of the 20th century.
Hedda Jansson, a historian of religion at Stockholm University, portrays a visionary who changed perceptions of education, society and women’s role.
Join us for an evening about the struggle for women’s rights and a society in transition!
The lecture is part of the programme series Kvinnorna i sekelskiftets Sverige.
Tip! Make the evening extra special with a warming vegetarian soup and a glass of wine at the museum’s restaurant Rosengården. The special price for the evening is SEK 160. The alcohol-free option costs SEK 120.
