Svartsjö Slott

An 18th-century Rococo palace on Färingsö.

Svartsjö Slott is situated on Färingsö in Lake Mälaren. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, but the foundations of the building that can be visited today were not laid until the 18th century, with Carl Hårleman as architect. Over the years, the palace has served as both a private residence and a forced labour institution. Today, visitors can explore not only the palace but also the prison governor’s former residence and one of the cells from its time as an institution. Svartsjö Slott is surrounded by a palace park that is open to the public.
