Breakfast talk: Does the world care about the Refugee Convention? Coffee will be served from 8.30 am.
In 2026, the UN Refugee Convention turns 75. At the same time, aid is increasingly being redirected towards border surveillance and internal security. Do we still care about refugees’ rights? And does the Convention have a future?
The UN Refugee Convention was adopted after the Second World War and still forms the basis of international refugee protection today. The Convention defines who is a refugee and establishes a central principle: no one may be sent back to a country where their life or freedom is threatened.
